Social Media Policy

As local, state and social media are vital partners in achieving the organizational goals for Amazing Parents, it is important to maximize the advantages of media relationships and minimize the risks of media misrepresentation. Therefore, it is important to establish effective media guidelines for how media contacts will be conducted.

The purpose of this policy is to establish a framework for achieving effective working relationships with the media and it is not intended to limit the freedom of speech or to enforce strict rules and regulations.

The president, board members, members and volunteers dealing with the media should be aware that they are representing the organisation and should avoid making comments or participating in photography or media engagements that could harm Amazing Parent's long-term reputation.

Purpose:

Amazing Parents works with media in order to:

  • Advocate for the organization's goals and the benefits of children with special needs.
  • Promote the organization's work for the benefit of children with special needs and their parents
  • Inform the public about the organization's specifics goals, objectives and activities carried for the best interests of the children with special needs
  • Assist in fundraising for the organisation

To ensure that these purposes are met with success, the policy regulates the choice of people entitled to speak on behalf of Amazing Parents. This policy is to be implemented in a way that ensures compliance with relevant legislative requirements and standards of best practice.

Amazing Parents expects that members will use the media channels to promote organizational goals in the best interest of its members and their children and will comply with all relevant policies and procedures and the Code of Conduct.

Policy:

Amazing Parents interaction with media will be consistent with the following principles:

  • Honesty: The organization will never knowingly mislead the public, media or members of the organization.
  • Transparency: The organisation will promote openness and accessibility in our dealings with the media, whilst complying with the law and respecting confidentiality.
  • Clarity: All communications with the media will be written in plain English and will be accurate, informative and timely.

Amazing Parents will seek to establish and maintain good and transparent communication with the media. However, contacts concerning any organizational matters and matters related to the members and their children should not be communicated or disclosed without the consent from the President and members concerned.

All media inquiries related to the Amazing Parents should be referred to the President of the organization.

The president, executive board members and volunteers must observe Amazing Parent’s Privacy Policy in relation to members’ records.

Process:

  • Any statement on behalf of Amazing Parents shall be made as authorized by the President and with consent of the executive board members.
  • It should always be apparent if the views expressed on any matter connected to Amazing Parents are those of the organisation or those of an individual.
  • At all times consideration should be given as to how the correspondence with media may affect the reputation of Amazing Parents.
  • Any video recordings on organization’s proceedings, activities and members’ communications should not be shared with media without the prior approval by the president and the members concerned.
